Staffer of NYC Mayor fired after caught on tape making disparaging remarks about first responders

A staffer for New York City mayor Eric Adams was reportedly fired after making disparaging remarks about first responders and comments on the effectiveness of Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) migrant busing campaign.

Christopher Baugh made the comments to an undercover female journalist working for Project Veritas. His firing was confirmed in a statement from Adams’s press secretary, Fabien Levy, obtained by Fox News Digital, then confirmed by Adams himself in a press conference with the Civilian Climate Corps on Thursday.

“This was a low-level staffer who had no private or special access to the mayor and who wasn’t hired by this administration,” Levy said in the statement. “His comments today disparaging first responders are completely unacceptable, and we’ve terminated this employee effective immediately. Mayor Adams will always stand up for our first responders and have their backs.”

However, Levy made sure to let his feelings about Project Veritas be known, a conservative undercover journalist group that secretly records prominent left-wing staffers for possible exposure.

“Let’s also not forget that, time and again, Project Veritas has lied to spin false narratives and deceive the American people. This is an enterprise run by a convicted criminal and one that admitted to lying about their identity and their intent just to secretly record and have conversations with this now-former employee. It’s shameful behavior that benefits no one.”

Adams justified his decision to fire Baugh in a press conference soon after the announcement. Asked about the situation by a reporter, he stressed that it was not due to disparaging remarks the former staffer had made about himself.

“The first tape we saw, Christopher made disparaging remarks about me. The team came to me and stated, ‘You know what? Are we getting rid of him?’ And I said, ‘No,'” Adams said. “People crap on me every day. You got to be thick-skinned. This is what being a mayor is. Being a mayor means you’re crapped on.”

“But when you have disparaging remarks about first responders, that’s unacceptable. It is not tolerated,” the mayor said. “My team didn’t have to call me again. I say that’s not acceptable. I know what first responders went through. I cannot allow that to happen. And my team cannot be a part of that. So, it wasn’t about giving him … We did give him a second chance. The first tape, the team came to me, [and] I said, ‘No.’ Got to be thick-skinned in this business. But my first responders don’t have to be thick-skinned, and I’m going to stand up for them.”

Baugh was caught making several controversial comments in a secret recording made by an undercover female Project Veritas journalist.

“They [former NYPD] chose not to do a very, very harmless thing that like protects the rest of society, f*** them,” Baugh said, referring to policemen who refused to get vaccinated for COVID-19 and got fired as a result. “I don’t give a sh**. They are like, ‘This is unfair.’ F***ing deal with it. We’re allowed to set the terms of employment. Period.”

“I have no sympathy for them — they made a choice. That was the rule. You had a very cushy government job. You could always go not work for the government,” he said in another case. “Being a cop is like the cushiest gig in the city. Like, you might get shot, but otherwise, it’s very good.”

He also spoke about Abbott’s policy of busing in migrants, which he said was highly effective and overloading the system.

“I think what Abbot was doing has proven effective. Like, it’s flooding our system,” Baugh said. “I think the optics of this are bad for Biden, and they’re bad for the mayor … And I don’t know that Eric Adams is capable enough to navigate it.”

The Adams staffer also took aim at his now former boss, disparaging his alleged plans to run for President.

“The mayor [Adams] thinks he’s got the ambition for running for president … And I’m like, ‘this is it for you. No, you can’t … You are very corrupt,’ and lots of other issues,” the staffer said. He explained that Adams, “is worth $2.5 million, and he has rental properties. And like all he’s ever done is be a cop and a civil servant.”
