Soon-to-be ex-mayor Marv Calvin finds driving school bus “healing” | News


(Willmar MN-) Mayor Marv Calvin may be stepping down from his leadership post with The City of Willmar, but says he intends to keep “driving the bus.” After 8 years as mayor, Calvin decided not to run for reelection, and on December 19th presided over his final city council meeting. On January 9th he will turn over the reins of power to Doug Reese. When Calvin was first elected in 2014 it was a tumultuous time with a divided council and a lack of direction. But he says slowly things turned around, and gives a lot of credit to the city council…

…Calvin says right from the start of his tenure the city was working on making The Willmar WYE Project a reality. He says it took a lot of meetings and a lot of behind the scenes bargaining and drama to make it come to fruition…

…Last year Calvin’s son Robert passed away at the age of 37. Marv says driving school bus for Willmar Bus Service has helped him heal…

…Calvin was Willmar’s Fire Chief before serving as mayor. A native of rural Pennock, he says he and wife Ginna will continue to stay in the area and spend time traveling. He says they have a goal of visiting every national park and every Minnesota state park. They also have a cabin in Finland Minnesota.
