Mayor Tiffany Ziegler made the announcement at the start of the meeting and did not say why the developer, Fetzer Lakes LLC, withdrew the application. The original plan was to rezone a nearly 200-acre property to make way for 795 homes to be built in the area near Wildwood Church Road and Sims Road.Earlier on Monday, the developer withdrew the plans and residents didn’t hear the news until right before the monthly City Council meeting started. Many stood outside City Hall shocked Fetzer Lakes LLC withdrew the application for development, some sharing thoughts with WJCL 22 News that this is just the beginning.Currently, Wildwood Church Rd. is a long dirt road, with more than a dozen homes and farms alongside it, according to a 26-year resident of Wildwood Church Road, Ken Cobi. “We moved out here in 1998 because we wanted something out in the country that’s nice and quiet, and that’s what we had,” Cobi said prior to the start of the meeting. “You’re looking at adding about 50 times or 5,000% more traffic on that road. It just makes no sense at all.”
