Ousted challenger plans recall petition against West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James

Rodney Mayo says he’s angry Mayor Keith James gets another term with no challenger.”Without having to spend a dime or go to one debate or facing me or by a vote of the residents of the city,” said Mayo.In his lawsuit to get Mayo kicked off the ballot, James produced evidence showing Mayo owns a home in Lantana, and doesn’t live fulltime in his apartment over one of his many businesses on Clematis street. The city charter requires a mayoral candidate live “continuously” in the city for six months before the election,“I don’t even know if the guy even voted in West Palm Beach because he didn’t have a voting registration card that showed a West Palm Beach precinct. All the evidence pointed in the direction that he had not fulfilled that requirement of maintaining continuing residence in our city from September 14th until March 14th,” said James.Mayo says he thinks James sued to get him off the ballot over a technicality because he was gaining support and James was getting nervous about his chances of winning.”He does not care about the people’s wishes –that’s been shown. It’s been obvious. That’s the reason I ran to actually do what the people want, you know, a representative of the people and their wishes,” said Mayo.Mayo says he’s taking his support and 500 volunteers to start a campaign to recall James as Mayor. Florida law requires a compelling reason to recall an elected official, and for at least 15% of the city’s registered voters to sign a recall petition.”We are considering a recall because we’re thinking of now taking our efforts and kind of just directing an into recalling the mayor, which is actually surprisingly less votes than it takes to be mayor. We can recall this mayor with 4,300 signatures,” said Mayo.James says he’s not concerned.”My reaction is sour grapes. That’s something he wants to pursue. They want to pursue. We’ll be prepared to defend ourselves against that,” said James.
