Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome proclaims the month of November Veterans’ Month

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — November is Veteran’s Month in East Baton Rouge Parish.
There are several events planned to honor the men and women in our community who served in the Armed Forces.

“Our children sacrifice time with their family so that you can safely enjoy your family,” stated Denise Amoroso, Metro-Councilwoman.

Ten percent of the Baton Rouge community is made up of veterans. Mayor-President, Sharon Weston Broome, says it is essential to honor those, who give up their freedom so that we can have ours. “Veterans Month offers us all an opportunity to recognize the veterans in our lives, to honor their sacrifices, and to show appreciation for their service to our nation,” she continued.

Mayor Broome’s Advisory council has partnered with community-based organizations to create the city’s first Redstick Veterans week. Anthony Winters is the founder of Veterans Defenders and says you can learn a whole lot about what veterans go through, by coming out to events like these. “It’s important for us to honor them by getting knowledge for the whole community. If we all learn the information, then we can all share that and be able to support our veterans,” he explained.

State Leaders want Redstick Veterans week to serve as a reminder to those in the Armed Forces, letting them know there’s a community that’s thankful for their sacrifice.
