Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas has signed a new liquor card ordinance.The city council voted to remove the liquor card requirement Thursday.This means servers and bartenders can sell and serve alcohol without a license. “if you ain’t got $42, if you don’t have a car to go downtown to get your card, it becomes a huge challenge,” Lucas said at the signing on Sunday. “I mean. This is truly cutting red tape. This is truly making things easier for normal working people.”The change means people with criminal records can sell alcohol too – but those convicted of a sex crime cannot.Mayor Lucas hosted the signing ceremony for the liquor card ordinance at The Combine located at 2999 Troost Ave. alongside The Combine owner and Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Vice President Alan Kneeland and Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Executive Director Bill Teel.
