How to register to vote in Alabama | News | #elections | #alabama

Alabama has several ways you can register to vote — online, in person and by mail.

To register to vote in Alabama, you must be a citizen of the United States, live in Alabama and be at least 18 years old as of election day. You must also have a valid Alabama driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card, which you will have to present when you vote.

Those who have been barred from voting due to a disqualifying felony conviction or judgment of mental incompetence in a court of law are not allowed to register.

Qualifying citizens can register in person by visiting any state or county office that provides public assistance. Each office then submits the completed voter registration application to the local board of registrars office, which must review and approve the application before a citizen can be considered a registered voter.

To register online or have a registration form mailed to their home, citizens can visit the Alabama Secretary of State’s office here. You can also visit the site to learn about absentee voting, view upcoming election dates, find your polling place and check registration status.
