Cincinnati city council announces next steps in filling Greg Landsman’s open seat


Cincinnati city council member Greg Landsman is heading to Washington, D.C., opening up a seat in the Cincinnati city council.Landsman won the race for Ohio’s first congressional district earlier this month and city leaders have now laid out the process to find his replacement. Cincinnati City Council will hold a Special Session of Council on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at 9 a.m. at City Hall, 801 Plum Street, Room 300, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and take action on items pertaining to Councilmember Greg Landsman’s resignation from Council and the appointment of the new Councilmember-Elect, in accordance with Article II, Section 4b of the Charter of the city of Cincinnati.Cincinnati city council member Reggie Harris has been named Landsman’s designee to fill his open seat. According to Harris, the application is live on his council member page. The application will be open until Sunday, Nov. 27 at 11:59 p.m. Next Tuesday, Nov. 29, Harris will present the list of applicants for the seat to the public and governance committee. From there, the city council will narrow down the applicant pool and interview their top candidates. “This is not going to be a popularity contest. Right? The appointment process is a process of continuity. It’s about thinking about what we’ve established over this year, and what we’re doing going into the next year,” Harris said. The appointee to the seat will be announced the week of Dec. 5. City council is also asking for help from the community in the form of a survey, allowing community members to express what they hope to see in the next city council member.
