Burlington City Council approve charter change language for Town Meeting Day ballots, financing CityPlace project | #citycouncil


Burlington City Council finalized a few ballot items and approved a financing request regarding CityPlace at Monday night’s council meeting.Council agreed on the language voters will see on Town Meeting Day for multiple charter changes, including whether or not non-citizen residents of the city should be allowed to vote and the final redistricting map.Redistricting has been a months-long debate amongst the council. They had originally decided on a map in December, but last second went back to the drawing board with some changes. In the end, council voted to keep the original map but only adopt a few edits to it.The Community Economic and Development Office also brought forward a request for a substantial change regarding the Waterfront TIF district to finance public improvements involving CityPlace. Council approved the city moving forward with the application.CEDO needed the approval to submit the request to the Vermont Economic Progress Council (VEPC) before a February 3 due date.
