Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey leaned into former President Donald Trump’s favorite talking points about the “stolen election” in a recent campaign ad focusing on election integrity.
Ivey, who is running for a second term as governor, blamed “the fake news, Big Tech, and blue-state liberals” for stealing “the election from President Trump.” She touted the measures she’s taken as governor to shore up Alabama’s election security.

“We have not and will not send absentee ballots to everyone and their brother,” Ivey said. “We banned corrupt curbside voting, and our results will always be audited. I’m Kay Ivey, the Left is probably offended — so be it. As long as I’m governor, we’re going to protect your vote.”

Though still an apparently staunch supporter of the former president, Ivey reportedly lost favor with Trump in July 2021 when the state did not allow him to hold a “Save America” rally in Mobile. Rumors also abounded that Trump could support a Republican primary challenger to Ivey, Lynda Blanchard, who was his ambassador to Slovenia. Trump has not yet made an endorsement in the race.

Ivey has kept Alabama on the front lines of conservative policy, signing into law last week an education bill similar to Florida’s ban on sexual education for elementary students and another bill banning transgender treatment for minors.
