Alabama Democrat candidates in Tuscaloosa this weekend | #elections | #alabama

While Alabama’s 2022 elections aren’t until Nov. 8, the primaries for the GOP and Democratic tickets are happening next month.

The Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party is hosting a meet-your-candidates event at Capitol Park, offering voters a chance to learn what candidates’ platforms are and how they’ll lead if they’re elected.

At least 14 candidates on the Democratic primary ballot will be there, ranging from candidates for U.S. Senate and U.S. House to State Senate, State House and Alabama governor.

Voters are welcome to ask questions in an attempt to learn about candidates’ platforms and their goals.

Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party Chair Judy Taylor said knowing who’s running is key in an election.

“If you don’t know who you are voting for then how can you make a good, educated decision?” Taylor said. “If I talk for a moment, I won’t know someone, but I can have a good idea of how I react to them, whether I have confidence in them, whether I believe in what they are saying, and I think that’s really important.”

The event is happening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Capitol Park, 2828 Sixth St. in Tuscaloosa, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. If there’s rain, the location will be changed to Grace Presbyterian Church, 113 Hargrove Road in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama’s primary election is May 24. If runoffs are required, those will be held June 21. The General Election is Nov. 8.
