Election Day is upon us.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
In addition to local races, the Yellowhammer State will choose its next U.S. Senator to replace longtime U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa), vote for congressional seats, governor and more.

Secretary of State John Merrill said that the state is on track for 44% to 45% of registered voters to vote in the midterm elections by the end of Election Day and that things were running smoothly, with only minor hiccups.

Per NYT, Dale Strong (R) holds 35-point lead over Kathy Warner-Stanton (D) with 23% of votes counted in Alabama’s fifth congressional district. Strong is declaring victory.

Jefferson County GOP chair Paul DeMarco tells 1819 News that things are looking good for Jared Hudson in Gardendale and Hueytown.

In victory speech, Britt says she’s going to “defend faith, family, freedom” as U.S. Senator.
“I believe that food security is national security,” she added.
Britt also emphasized the importance of education for the nation’s children.
